Recuperating
It's been three weeks since my rotator cuff surgery and I'm still wearing my "buddy"(my sling), 24 hours a day except for showers and stretching exercises. May I give some advice to those who might have the same surgery? Beforehand, buy some elastic waistband pants that don't have to be fastened and shirts that don't have to be tucked in. It will make getting dressed a lot easier and without help. There is practically no way to tuck in a shirt tail and fasten your pants with one hand. After the surgery, I am not allowed to move my left arm with the muscles in that arm or shoulder. All stretching exercises are passive at this point. I am looking forward to going back to the doctor on Jan. 7, 2008, so maybe I can get rid of the sling at least. I still will not be allowed to lift anything with the left arm for four to six weeks after losing the sling. In spite of the surgery and recovery, I have had a wonderful Christmas holiday. My wife and family have been so helpful in doing things for me that I have been unable to do with one hand. I thank God for their compassion and help and for sending His Son, Jesus Christ, to earth to save me from my sins. How about you?

Out Patient Surgery
I finally broke down and scheduled my rotator cuff surgery, which should have been done about a year ago. The outpatient surgery went well, but the recovery time will take about 8 weeks. I have to wear a sling 24 hours a day, except for showering. After that I won't be able to pick up anything heavier than a coffee cup for another 4 weeks. The damage to the rotator cuff was not as bad as first thought, which would have taken 12 weeks total recovery time. After only 3 days, TV is already getting old. I may have to convert to computer time. I'm open for suggestions for a "one armed man" (not to be confused with the Fugitive.), with limited physical activity.

Narroway Theater
Last Saturday, I had the privilege of seeing the production "The Real Meaning of Christmas" at the Narroway Theater and Conference Center in Fort Mill, SC. The first of two acts depicted Christmas from the Santa Claus and his reindeer theme. The second act, introduced by Santa Claus, was about the birth of the Christ Child in Bethlehem. It was a wonderful production. I would recommend all to see this production. It was inspirational.
I attended with the senior adults from my church. All had a great time. This is a dinner theater, with the meal served just prior to the production. The menu was roast beef, green beans, mashed potatoes with gray, hard roll, and carrot cake with cream cheese icing. It was a delicious meal. Hope others get to enjoy this meal and production.

Raking Leaves
Today, I spent the afternoon raking leaves in my front yard. Not one of my favorite things to do on a day off, but the ground was covered in the front yard. I got most of them up and placed in the garden, but I left a couple of piles. It wasn't far from dark and I was cold and tired. There will be another day.....

Creating My Blog
Hello, My name is James West, United States Secret Service. No really my name is Ken West, but I have received kidding about being James West or the great great grandson of James West. I enjoy spending time with my family and fishing as a hobby. I will attempt to place some photos of some of my favorite things, shows and people. I have posted a couple of fish I recently caught at the coast. One is a puppy drum and the other is a lizard fish. The puppy drum was on 16 inches long, 2 inches short of being a keeper. The lizard fish is a wicked looking thing that is worthless....
